Are you the face of the American dream? Apply for the 2010 Faces of Diversity Award today!

The Oregon Restaurant Association, in partnership with the National Restaurant Association, is seeking applications for the 2010 Faces of Diversity Awards. The awards program recognizes the restaurant industry’s diversity and the role it plays in helping people achieve the American dream. The awards honor people who realized their American dreams and companies that show leadership as advocates of diversity and inclusion. To apply for the Faces of Diversity Awards, visit http://www.restaurant.org/careers/diversity/2010app/dream.cfm. The application deadline is January 22, 2010. For more information, contact Glenda at the Oregon Restaurant Association at (503) 682-4422.

The restaurant industry is a cornerstone of the American economy, employing nine percent of the U.S. workforce. The restaurant industry’s workforce is more diverse than any other sector. It consists of men and women come from around the world – and here in the United States – who work to achieve the American Dream in one of the nation’s 945,000 restaurants.

The National Restaurant Association and PepsiCo Foodservice honor those who have realized the American Dream in the restaurant industry. The annual Faces of Diversity Awards recognizes four national winners and 12 finalists who have realized the American Dream through hard work and determination.

Through their hard work and perseverance, they inspire others that the American Dream is possible. And they show that it often starts in a restaurant. The restaurant industry employs more minority managers than any other industry. Women represent 55 percent of the restaurant workforce, and more than one-fourth of all foodservice managers are foreign-born. Our industry provides career and employment opportunities for more than 13 million individuals.

Awards will be presented in two categories. The American Dream Award honors individuals from diverse backgrounds, who through hard work and determination, have realized the American dream and the Inspiration Award honors companies that have exhibited leadership and vision as advocates of diversity and inclusion.

Winners at the national level will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, DC where they will be honored at the National Restaurant Association Public Affairs Conference in April 2010.

"Our industry is full of success stories, and I know of no other industry that provides more chances to thrive as a business owner or an employee. It is truly an industry of opportunity to enable millions to live the American dream. We look forward to learning more about those success stories in our own community through participation in the Faces of Diversity Awards program," said Steve McCoid, President and CEO of the Oregon Restaurant Association.

If you, or someone you know, embodies the American Dream or works for a company that has exhibited leadership and vision as an advocate of diversity, go to www.restaurant.org/diversity and apply today!
