Location

We all know the Mantra."location, location, location!" Does the "Where" really matter as much as the "What"? In short, yes.

What is the population and demographic of the area you plan to start your business? Yes, tourists and visitors make a difference (especially at the coast and in central Oregon) but the locals are your bread and butter. Are there enough people in the area to support another business? Is there a school or other source of customers near by?

What's the crime rate where you're looking? Will customers feel safe coming in and out of the business? Will people passing by feel comfortable stopping there?

What's the visibility where you're locating? Does it have street frontage? Is there access from that street, or do customers have to find the entrance? What about parking? Do customers have to park on the street, or do you have a parking lot for them? Do other businesses share the lot? If so, how many spaces will you get? What does the city allow for Signage? Is there an existing sign and is it effective?
