Karen Mainzer, Director of Local Government Affairs

Karen Mainzer is a graduate of Penn State University and worked as an economist with the Bureau of Labor Statistics in Washington, D.C.

She moved to Oregon in 1994 and served as journal editor for the Chief Clerk of the Oregon House of Representatives for the 1995 session. She then worked as committee staff for the Oregon Legislative Assembly.

In 1999, Karen lobbied for the Association of Oregon Counties Mental Health Directors Association and served as executive director of the Oregon Gambling Addiction Treatment Program. After that legislative session, she went on to lobby for Public Affairs Counsel, a contract lobbying firm in Salem which has worked with the Oregon Restaurant Association since 1999. She joined the staff of the Oregon Restaurant Association in 2003.

In addition to her political efforts, Karen has also been a food server and wine store manager in Alexandria and Burke, Virginia and a data technician for the Oregon Health Plan.
