bigger - we hope to see you there for next
year's contest.
So mark your calendar
for April 8, 2006 at the
Oregon Convention Center as approximately
35 teams will vie for the title of state

What is this culinary and
management championship event all about?
The Culinary Cup
is a contest of cooking and culinary skills
where teams made up of four students have
one hour to make an entire meal from scratch.
They are not allowed to use any pre-prepared
ingredients (i.e. pre-made dough or dressings)
or any battery or electrically - operated
equipment like mixers. Additionally, the
teams have to cook the entire meal on only
two burners. Judges watch the teams with
eagle eyes and rate them on everything from
safety, sanitation, teamwork, presentation,
taste, recipes, costing of recipes, and
texture while ensuring that everything is
complete within the allotted time.
The Management
Competition has two facets which
test students' knowledge of management procedures
and industry understanding.
The Case Study
is a closed-door competition where teams
of four students are given an industry management
scenario and asked to solve it. Teams have
20 minutes to review the case and prepare
a presentation before going in front of
judges to present their solution.
The Knowledge
Bowl is an open to the public contest
where the top 9 teams compete in a 'Jeopardy'
- style quiz bowl for points. Both the Case
Study score (60%) and the Knowledge Bowl
score (40%) are added together for a total
management competition score, which determines
the winner.
Teams have mentor chefs
and industry leaders who work with them
year - round to prepare for this event.
