(Roseburg, OR) – On Saturday, October 13 from 8am-12pm, fourteen culinary arts students from Roseburg High School will take over the school cafeteria to cook up the United Way fundraising campaign’s “Breakfast of Heroes”.
 
With 250 people scheduled to attend, the students in teacher Sheri Carson’s ProStart program at the high school have been hurriedly making final preparations on the culinary offerings for Saturday’s event.  The students developed the menu themselves, which will consist of scrambled eggs, French toast, sausage, fruit and muffins.
 
“This is very exciting for the students,” Carson said. “It is giving them an opportunity to take the culinary and food service management skills that they are learning in the classroom, and use them in a real-world catering event, while helping out a great charity.”
 
The breakfast event also includes a gift basket auction that will raise additional funds that will benefit United Way. Feeling the call of philanthropic duty themselves, the high school students contributed a complimentary dinner for two in the Night on the Town basket, which includes other packages donated by several local restaurants and nearby wineries.
 
This marks the third year that United Way and the culinary students have worked together on this event.
