Calling All Advanced Level Culinary, Catering & Professional Foods Classes!

Oregon Opportunity Grant for Low-Income Students ~ Newspaper report: not enough students apply for this grant!

The Oregonian newspaper reported earlier this week that the Oregon Opportunity Grant, which was developed to help low-income students pay for college, had too few applicants.

Qualifications:

Be an Oregon resident and US citizen, or an eligible non-citizen
Be attending college at least 1/2 time or taking 6 credit hours
Be income-eligible (example: family of 4 with income of less than $33,100 or less than $9,390 for a student paying on their own
To apply: fill out a FAFSA form at any campus financial aid office or go online to: www.fafsa.ed.gov/

Douglas High School ProStart Class Caters Auction Luau ~ Winston-area ProStart class shines

The Douglas High School ProStart class, a school- based culinary and hospitality training program, catered the school auction luau. Under the direction of instructor and advisor Vi Jobb, the Prostart students prepared a variety of hors d'oeuvres including fruit trays, stuffed mushrooms, vegetable trays, meat wraps, etc. for approximately 100 ;uau guests. DHS ProStart students Ciara Odom, Jami Hill, Annalise Johnson, Dustin Arms, Kassidy Contreras, Britta Box, Kyle Disney, Isaac Halmgrinson, Samantha Hoke, David Ingram, Sarah James, Andrea Kehoe, Ariel Lindquist, Chace Marlow, Kimberly Mintz, Sarah Powers, Jasmin Valencia, Tony Vierra, and Jade Woods planned and prepared the hors d'oeuvers menu.
